Reyes, Talaboc win in 4th National Executive Chess Championship North Luzon Leg By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 05 Feb 2023 ANGELES CITY, Pampanga—National Master Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes and Freddie Simo Talaboc lorded the 4th National Executive Chess Championship North Luzon Leg on Saturday, February 4, 2023 held at the Activity Center, Marquee Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga here. The 11-year-old Reyes, a Grade 6 student of Santa Rita College of Pampanga, topped the kiddies category, while the 40-year-old Talaboc, Account Manager at DataLand Inc., bagged another victory by dominating the Executive category. Reyes finished the five-round rapid competition with 4.5 points, besting 11 year old Pat Ferdolf Macabulos, a Grade 5 student of Mabatang Elementary School in Mabatang, Bataan in a tie break points, who settled for second with similar 4.5 points. "I knew that this was a tough tournament with all the players. I just tried to play my best and now I am really happy," said Reyes. Third to fifth placers Jaycol Sodela, Clyde Jared Torena, and Abighale Bangloy Dacoron all scored 4.0 points as well. However, they were ranked according to their accumulated tie-break points. Meanwhile, Talaboc finished the 5-round Swiss system competition in the Executive category with 4.5 points. 'I'm so happy to have been part of such an incredible event' said Talaboc, one of the top players of PCAP's Quezon City Simba's Tribe. National Master Nicomedes Alisangco and Jesus Benjamin Lising both scored 4.0 points, and were ranked second and third, respectively, based on their total tie break points. Francis Simo Talaboc and Joel Obogne each scored 3.5 points to place fourth to fifth, respectively. Rounding up to the top 11 who scored 3.0 points each are sixth Dr. Gener Subia, seventh Bazil Ledesma, eight Leonardo Navarro, ninth International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad, tenth IT expert Joselito Cada and eleventh engr. Mark Anthony Mallari Yabut.
