WEIGHTS FROM THE PERSHING SQUARE, LOS ANGELES

PhilBoxing.com

Los Angeles, CA:- Today at high noon, the Golden Boy Promotions held the official weigh-in at the historic Pershing Square in downtown Los Angeles for everyone participating in tomorrow?s big fight at the Home Depot Center.

The fans came and they came in droves.

The ?open to the public? weigh-in was well attended, thanks to the blazing all out publicity spear-headed by the good people at Golden Boy Promotions.

The presence of the huge crowd is a tribute to the ?draw power? of the Golden Boy himself, Oscar de la Hoya. Even this late in his career, his fans remained faithful and they always came to see him.

De la Hoya will be fighting Steve Forbes, a relatively ?unknown? pug, at least when compared to the many others the Golden Boy has fought lately. He is also a huge underdog. But, in spite of that, Forbes is undaunted by the fact that most everyone had written him off as someone who will end on the short end of the stick come Saturday night.

Forbes is taking this fight as a big opportunity in his career , a career that got started by the TV reality show called ?Contenders?. A victory over de la Hoya will definitely catapult him to places he never even dreamt about and the money and fame that naturally goes with it. But to achieve that, he has to fight the fight of his life. It?s not going to be easy. Many even said that a win for him is not going to happen. But boxing is boxing. For all we know, he may luckily land a Mosley-like shot to the liver and de la Hoya will crumble to the canvas.

Far fetched? Definitely said a lot of pundits.!

Possible? Yes. At least from the point of view of Team Forbes.

Forbes came on the scales first. He had no problem making 150lbs.

Then the Golden Boy took his turn. He got on the scales with his neat white blue trunks with blue stripes and his socks. But alas, he was just a wee bit over the limit. He tip the scales at 150.5 lbs. His Team took off his white socks and when he stepped on the scales again, he was 150 lbs on the nose.

The de la Hoya-Forbes tiff will be carried live by HBO and its free, not a PPV. The fight card is sponsored by Tecate Beer, RockStar Energy Drink, Tournament of Contenders, AEG, Southwest Air Lines, Cazadores, Affliction and HBO.
