IM Christian Gian Karlo Tade - Arca outwits GM Pa Iniyan in Round 6 of the Manny Pacquiao International Open chess

International Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca downed Grandmaster Pa Iniyan of India to gain a share of second place in the sixth round of the Manny Pacquiao International Open dubbed as the 87th Kalilangan Chess Festival 2026 Open held at the Family Country Hotel in General Santos City on Thursday.
The victory hiked Arca's output to 4.5 points, tying with
Grandmaster Arkadij Naiditsch of Bulgaria, Grandmaster Tin Jingyao of Singapore, International Master Chito Garma, Grandmaster Peng Li Min of Switzerland, Grandmaster Vitaly Sivuk of Sweden, Grandmaster Visakh N R of India and Grandmaster Platon Galperin of Sweden.
"I hope I can sustain the momentum," said the Zamboanga City based Arca, who split the points with top seed Grandmaster Johan-Sebastian Christiansen of Norway in the fourth round then subdued countryman Sherwin Tiu in the fifth round.
Grandmaster Novendra Priasmoro of Indonesia settled for a truce with Grandmaster Visakh N R of India to remain on top with 5.0 points.
Organized by Pacman Chess Association, the five-day Standard (90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment time control format) backed up by former Senator Manny Pacquiao, offers 20,000 US dollars to the champion.
The tournament Director is Orly Ortega while Chief Arbiter IA James Infiesto is assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter IA Michael Joseph Pagaran and FA Margie Narcilla.-Marlon Bernardino-
