Ancajas prepares for rematch against Martinez By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Fri, 06 May 2022 Ancajas in Bukidnon. FORMER International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight champion Jerwin “Pretty Boy” Ancajas of Panabo City is now preparing for a rematch with tormentor Fernando “Pumita” Martinez of Argentina. “Rematch is what I want,” said the 30-year-old Ancajas, who is now staying at Barangay Lourdes in Dangcagan, Bukidnon. Ancajas said that the rematch against Martinez might be held either July or August in the US. “I am also sad that I was preparing for the unification,” said southpaw Ancajas. The unification fight was supposed to be held in Japan against Naoya “Monster” Inoue of Japan. Ancajas said that they had started practicing already and will have a sparring next week. “I feel that my body will start practicing again,” said Ancajas. Ancajas used to be losing weight at 160 pounds before. But now Ancajas has only maintained 135 to 138 pounds. He blamed himself for not being in good condition in fighting Martinez. “I was not really prepared to fight against Martinez at that time,” said Ancajas. He was still having a weight problem one week before the fight. “I’m playing out of condition, my brain wants to do something but my body doesn't,” said Ancajas. Ancajas cannot do what he wants to do because many boxers also are practicing in the US. “At first I really don’t want to fight in the super flyweight already,” said Ancajas’ trainer-manager Joven Jimenez. But Ancajas convinced Jimenez to give him a chance to have a rematch. “If Ancajas will lose weight early, he has a chance to win,” said Jimenez. Ancajas wants a proper space to do some exercises. He also needs at least four or six sparring partners. Jimenez is very thankful that many friends and supporters of Ancajas have been there to support after he lost to Martinez. “We'll take the dietician again,” said Jimenez. Four of Ancajas’ sparring mates are ready and in fact fought against separate opponents last April 30 in Dangcagan, Bukidnon. They are former Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) minimum weight champion Lito “Naruto” Dante of Bohol, Samuel “Silent Assassin” Salva of Gingoog City, super flyweight Jerald “The Predator” Paclar of Quezon, Bukidnon and bantamweight Alexis Abilar of Cavite. They will just go home to vote but will return back again in Bukidnon. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Lito delos Reyes. |
