Bernardino beats Batara in the Beat the Master Chess Challenge Chess For A Cause Match Up Series

MANILA, Philippines---Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. downed youthful Rai Enzo Batara, 13-5, to win their 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment match-up in the first-ever Estavillo Chess Academy Blitz Online Face Off Series in close cooperation with Bayanihan Chess Club on Friday, September 24, 2021, dubbed as "Beat the Master Chess Challenge Chess For A Cause Match Up Series" virtually held at Chess.com Platform.

The match was very intense and lasted the full 15 games before the match winner was decided according to tournament organizer coach Ederwin Estavillo and live streamer/ blogger Richard Cornell Manzano.

"The 44-year-old NM and USM Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr., fighting a 15-year old opponent and Rising star of Cavite Rai Enzo Batara, displayed his vast experience in the opening, middle game and end game," said coach Estavillo.

"It's a big privileged and honor to play Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr.," said the 15-year old Batara, a Grade 10 student of Academia de Julia Victoria in Imus City, Cavite.

"He (Rai Enzo Batara) has a bright future ahead," said Bernardino, team captain and top board player of PCAP's Cavite Spartans.

It shall be recalled that Bernardino, who is also an online Arena Grandmaster of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), defeated Mark Angelo Godino of Mobile Chess Club Philippines, 9-1, last August 15, 2021, organized by Dr. Ariel Potot of Richessmasters then subdued Arena International Master Mark Anthony Dulatre, 7-2, last August 27, 2021 in the Kuya OJ Chessnobela Chess For a Cause match up series organized by Mr. Jaime "Jimmy" Reyes.

Bernardino, a veteran sportswriter and radio commentator will face Adamson University Varsity player Janmyl Tisado on October 8, 2021.

Bernardino is the founding president of Bayanihan Chess Club under the leadership of co-founding chairman US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas and Engr. Antonio "Uncle Paps" Carreon Balinas.

The chess for a cause match up series would be possible with the undying support of Mr. Jessie Villasin, AIM Jojo Clamor Dondon, Mr. Niel Dumlao, Engr. Herbert Tabernilla Jr., Mr. Simon Manalo, Mr. Edmund Saño, Mr. Edgar Allan Canoy, Ms. Lenz Louisse Batara and Ms. Christine Louise Burgos.-Marlon Bernardino-
