CANELO TOO STRONG FOR SAUNDERS; EYES PLANT NEXT FOR THE UNDISPUTED TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

USA -- Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez added the WBO belt to his WBA/WBC/RING super middleweight belts after winning by 8th round TKO over former champion Billy Joe Saunders of Britain at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas Saturday night (Sunday in Manila). He now owns the lion’s share of all the belts in the division.

Saunders didn’t come out from his stool going into round 9. After the 7th round, Saunder’s face was still untouched but he absorbed a counter right uppercut in the middle of 8th round that created a swelling right away under his right eye or upper right cheek bone.

When the corner of Saunders told the referee that Saunders could continue, it looked like it was an anti-climactic ending. But after Chris Mannix interviewed Canelo it became clear that perhaps Canelo broke Saunders’ face on that uppercut, specifically in the orbital bone area. Saunders claimed he could see any more in his right eye and it was echoed by Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom boss.

Before the fateful 8th round, the fight was very close as Saunders was very elusive and he looked way bigger and taller than expected. On fight week Saunders was questioning about the size of the ring, he threatened to cancel the fight if the ring size is smaller than what they agreed. But they settled the ring size and you can tell why Saunders wanted a bigger ring.

Saunders was using to the last square inch of that ring to avoid Canelo’s bombs. Saunders was successfully boxing Canelo until the 8th round. One shot changed everything for Billy Joe. As of press time, Billy Joe Saunders was inside an ambulance straight to the hospital to check his cheek. Good thing Saunders was English, if he was a Mexican like Antonio Margarito maybe he will regret it for the rest of his life, you only have one set of eyes better take precaution right away than sorry.

Canelo wanted Caleb Plant’s IBF super middleweight crown, Eddie Hearn told Chris Mannix there’s no other match for Canelo Alvarez right now but a unification bout with Caleb Plant. Caleb Plant is a native of Nashville, TN and has an undefeated record of W21-0L-12KOs. He already defended his belt three times. So if everything lines up according to plan, we will see an undisputed fight by September, on Mexican independence day.

Official score after 8 rounds: Tim Cheatham 77-75 Canelo, Max DeLuca 78-74 Canelo and Glenn Feldman 78-74 Canelo.

Oh!BeerTime!
Lakers is #7 in the West, meaning with 5 games to go, Lakers might be in the Play-in tournament… if season ends today, Lakers #7 will play against Warriors #8, the loser will play against winner of Memphis #9 vs Spurs #10 to determine 8th seed. By the way I look at it, unhealthy Lakers won’t win against healthy Warriors… so if you ask me, my Jazz will win in the West all the way, they will beat Clippers in western finals… For the East, if season ends right now, #7 Boston vs #8 Hornets loser will face #9 Wizards vs #10 Pacers winner… my crystal ball told me Hornets will capture #7 and Wizards will be #8… in my lifetime I never witnessed a player averaging triple double, until Russell Westbrook came along, he make triple double look easy, tonight he tied legendary Oscar Robertson to the most triple double of all time, 181… for Westy this is his 4th season averaging triple double, so if I were you guys, you watch Wizards game, this is phenomenal, a once in a blue moon kinda thing… and I hope I'm right, Wizards make the playoff and knock out #1 seed 76ers…

HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY TO ALL MAMAS OUT THERE! MAMA’S LOVE IS A WONDERFUL THING MAKE SURE TO TELL YOUR MAMA HOW MUCH YOU LOVE THEM… TO MY MOMMY ANNE, I LOVE YOU MORE EACH DAY THAN YESTERDAY!!!!
