Greg Cohen Promotions Signs Super Middleweight Louis Rose to a Promotional Contract

PhilBoxing.com

Greg Cohen Promotions proudly announces the signing of the best kept secret in the super middleweight division – former NABF Middleweight Champion Louis Rose of California – to a promotional contract.

Before taking time off to raise his son in 2017, Rose (17-3-1, 7 KOs), amassed a sizeable collection of opponents’ zeroes, taking undefeated records away from Delen Parsley (then 10-0), Gino McClellan (9-0), Fabian Reyes (10-0), Milorad Zizic (11-0), and Jorge Ivan Ibanez (8-0). He reached the pinnacle, thus far, of his career in 2015 when he fought then-undefeated future world champion Rob Brant to a highly debatable majority decision loss for the WBC Continental Americas Middleweight Title.

Back to full-time fighting and looking as sharp as ever in the gym, the now 32-year-old Rose recently appeared in a series of YouTube sparring videos that show him easily handling several un-named world-ranked fighters.

In his typically colorful ways, the jovial Rose says he’s looking forward to foes in his new weight division continuing to underestimate him.

“We going to the top. That’s the plan!” exclaimed Rose. “Nobody is stopping us. I’ve always had a great relationship with Greg Cohen and I’m happy to be back with him. The plan is to get a few fights in to get the rust off. Then I want to beat up whoever is in the way. I’ve been watching the 168-lbers and honestly, I don’t think much of them. Nobody is touching me. The only ones that maybe give me problems are David Benavidez or Canelo. Everybody else is nothing.”

One foe Rose says he’s itching to face is a young knockout puncher seemingly climbing everyone’s ratings, except for his. “Edgar Berlanga is nothing! I would love to fight him. I would bet money I could beat that dude easily!”

Admitting that obesity runs rampant through his family, Rose ballooned up to 230 lbs while away and even had his first comeback fight last September (a unanimous decision over Mexico’s Luis David Rodriguez Aguilar) in the heavyweight division. “I call it baby weight from having my son,” Rose laughed. “But I got it off in two and a half months. I’m in shape and have the right team by me now, so it’s going to be hard to stop me.”

A native of Los Angeles, Rose, fled an unhealthy home life as a youth, eventually being forced to live on the streets. He says he joined a boxing gym for $20 a month just to use the shower every day before work, but quickly showed a real knack for the sport. Blessed with superior reflexes, Rose is certain that despite his relatively advancing age, he’s still the same dangerous spoiler.

“I’m 32, but I carry myself like I’m 24,” he said. “I haven’t been punched much, so I still have a lot left in me. I rarely get even touched. All my brain cells are still there and I’m ready. A year from now, I’ll be standing on top of a turnbuckle holding up a belt. Telling fans ‘I told you so!’”

Cohen, who expects Rose to be back in the ring under his promotional banner by early summer, says he’s happy to be working with his long-time friend.

“Louis Rose is the full package,” said Cohen. “He just hasn’t had the representation to get him where he should be. And even though he’s been on the B side for most of his career, he’s still been able to beat a lot of well-regarded fighters. I’m happy he’s back and looking forward to him stirring things up at 168. He really is a great guy; very personable and always working hard for the things he wants. This should be a lot of fun.”
