ESTRADA TAKES GAME TWO OVER CHOCOLATITO!

PhilBoxing.com

USA – With a combined 2,925 punches thrown, Juan Francisco Estrada retained his WBC super flyweight belt and added Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez's WBA belt at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas Saturday night.

Gonzalez threw 1,317 punches with an efficiency of 30% while Estrada, the victor, has thrown 1,212 and landed 314, with an efficiency of 26%. The fight was a non stop boxing since round 1. Estrada obviously wanted to bring the fight to Chocolatito. He was more aggressive and threw more punches in the first 2 rounds but Chocolatito’s constant attack, non-stop crisp punching won him the middle rounds in my card.

DAZN commentators have Chocolatito winning the fight. The fight was a close fight but was very clear that Roman scored the cleaner blows and he won with accuracy and aggressiveness too.
Roman Gonzalez’s short punches was very effective, he was aggressive and threw more combinations. He neutralized Estrada’s attack with his own attack. Over 12 exciting rounds, Choco was the one attacking and Estrada back pedaling.

Judges scored the fight 115-113 Chocolatito, 117-111 Estrada and 115-113 Estrada for a split decision win for Estrada. 115-113 both ways is acceptable and understandable. The fight was very close. But the 117-111 for Estrada? Chocolatito only won 3 rounds? That is another reason why we need these judges to run a mile a day too. Maybe to make their senses function sanely. They didn’t run a mile, they didn’t do a round of mitts, they didn’t do 10 sit-ups, they didn’t do 5 push-ups and they’re telling Chocolatito that he only won 3 rounds on that fight. Very embarrassing to say the least! Btw, I scored 115-113 for Choco and before the fight I was hoping Estrada to even the series.

HOW WE GOT THIS FIGHT?

Eight years and 4 months ago, Gonzalez scored a unanimous decision victory over the top challenger Estrada. It was Chocolatito’s 5th defense of his WBA Lt Flyweight belt. Judges scored the bout 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112. After defeating Estrada, Chocolatito challenged Japanese champion Akira Yaegashi and captured WBC Flyweight crown and defended the belt 5 times until he met Rungvisai for a very difficult draw decision. Eventually, Rungvisai, now known Wangek, knocked out Chocolatito in brutal fashion, a 4th round KO in their rematch.

Wangek’s first defense was no cherry picking because he faced the dangerous and much improved Juan Francisco Estrada, and they fought for a majority draw. Wangek had two successful defenses and he fought Estrada again for a rematch in his 4th defense of the title. This time Estrada won a clear majority decision.
Estrada now defended his precious WBC belt twice. But silently, the defeated super champion Chocolatito slowly but brilliantly aligned himself to be the top lbs for lbs again by dethroning the strong KO artist champion WBA super flyweight Khalid Yafai. Chocolatito TKOd Yafai in 9th round.

Now after 8 yrs and 4 months in the making Chocolatito the champion vs Estrada the champion. The outcome was a super fight, high octane battle, a fillet mignon all you can eat treat for all the real/pure boxing fans!

OH!BEERTIME!
If Brooklyn Nets won't win the 2021 NBA ring, am still blaming refs… refs swallow their whistles last NBA finals… Raptors’ losing record is for real, I thought they’ll bounce over .500 before all-star, meaning they're back, they are the old Raptors… Kevin Love is back, he played 10 minutes Friday night against the Pelicans, Love scored 4 pts, have to highlight his return cause EAST is very open, #4 Miami is only 5 game ahead of #12 Cavs… and of course Knicks is #7… ok enough with NBA I promised myself I only have 3 NBA topics…. Lets go to upcoming boxing I like Joe Smith winning on Apr 10 for WBA Lt Heavy against Vlasov… but the month of May is stocked, Canelo > Saunders May 8… then on May 22 Jose Ramirez > Josh Taylor… btw I still picked Frazier > Tyson on fantasy fight!
