Marquez is not a dirty fighter?Roach
By Alex P. Vidal PhilBoxing.com Fri, 14 Mar 2008

LAS VEGAS -? Prized trainer Freddie Roach revealed he isn?t bothered by a possibility that the camp of World Boxing Council (WBC) superfeatherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez might tap their dirty department if they feel their ward is in queer street in the March 15 battle for the world championship against Manny Pacquiao dubbed ?Unfinished Businiess? at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino here.
?No, I don?t see Marquez resorting to a dirty trick in his fight with Pacquiao because I know that he is not a dirty fighter; he is a professional fighter and is not known for fighting a style that is not expected of him,? Roach said.
He considers Erik Morales as ?a more physical fighter,? Roach said, ?but not Marquez who is known for his skills and tactics inside the ring.?
The question cropped up after it was feared that Marquez might resort to ?Plan B? or roughhousing if he can not withstand the ferocity of Pacquiao who is a known for being a ?Mexican killer.?
Roach himself is wary of the fight lasting the distance if his adopted son and most favorite student, who is the Philippines? national pride, fails to tame the defending champion reputed as ?Dinamita? or dynamite, in the 12-round title fight jointly promoted by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions.
Experts have predicted a high-level duel between the division?s two most respected annihilators in a rematch to be aired by HBO on pay-per-view.
Both protagonists were also careful in their media statements during and after the press conference last March 12, avoiding an ugly exchange of verbal snipes commonly associated with mega fights.
Despite the egging of some equally excited reporters from both the Mexico and the Philippines, they both refused to predict a knockout victory but promised ?not to let their countrymen down.?
