MARCIAL SIGNS 6-YEAR DEAL WITH MP PROMOTIONS

PhilBoxing.com

Well-sought-after amateur standout Felix Eumir Marcial finally made all speculations to rest when he signed up with MP Promotions on Monday.

Marcial, from Zamboanga City, who will represent the Philippines in the re-scheduled 2021 Olympics in Japan, signed a six-year promotional deal with Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions and said in a statement that the main reason he signed with Pacquiao's outfit was the leeway given him to fight in future amateur competitions including the SEA Games, Asian Games and the Olympics.

"Napili ko ang MP Promotions dahil sa kanilang 100% support sa aking hangarin na lumaban pa para sa Pilipinas sa mga future SEA Games at Asian Games competitions at maging sa Olympics (I chose MP Promotions because of their 100% support in my desire to fight for the Philippines in future SEA Games and Asian Games competitions and even in the Olympics)," Marcial said.

Marcial has been approached by Hall of Fame American boxing manager Shelly Finkel who previously handled, among others, the careers of Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Fernando Vargas, Manny Pacquiao and lately Deontay Wilder.

Marcial won Gold Medal at 75kg (middleweight) in the 2020 Asia & Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualifying Tournament held last March in Amman, Jordan to book himself a seat in the coming Olympics.

He previously won the IBA Junior World Championships in 2011 and was awarded Best Asia Youth Boxer in 2014. He also won silver in the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Russia.

To become a world champion in his weight class, Marcial has to contend with the likes of Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez, Kazakh champion Gennady Golovkin, American Demetrius Andrade and Ryota Murata of Japan.

Asked whether he was not pressured by all the attention and expectations thrown his way, the 24-year-old Marcial said "all throughout my career the pressure was always there. For me the pressure is normal and I use it as a motivation to focus on my training."

By signing with MP Promotions, Marcial said that his goal of capturing the Philippines' first Olympic gold medal is still his main focus.

"Gaya po ng aking naipangako, ibibigay ko ang lahat ng aking makakaya para makuha ang minimithi natin na Olympic gold medal at maging isang boxing world champion ilang taon mula ngayon (As I promised, I will give my best to get the Olympic gold medal we aspire to and become a boxing world champion a few years from now)," Marcial said.

Marcial thanked all the people who have supported him throughout his boxing career and to all the Filipino sports fans who have followed him.

MP Promotions currently has three world champions in Jerwin Ancajas, Johnriel Casimero and Pedro Taduran.
