OPBF APPROVES DENOY-JARO LIGHT FLY TITLE FIGHT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 04 Mar 2008

The Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation has approved a battle for the vacant light flyweight title between Philippine champion Sonny Boy Jaro and countryman Along Denoy.
The OPBF title became automatically vacant after champion Juanito Rubillar signed to fight IBF champion Ulises Solis in Dubai in April on the undercard of the IBF/IBF flyweight title defense of Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire against tough Australian Nedal Hussein.
OPBF president Frank Quill said he had sanctioned the fight after boxing patron Tony Aldeguer had made an application to the OPBF to have Sonny Boy Jaro face Along Denoy for the vacant title. He said the OPBF was ?awaiting advice? from Aldeguer on a fight date.
It was only last Saturday that Jaro retained his title with a fourth round TKO over Julius Alcos, a fighter from the Rex ?Wakee? Salud stable who actually moved up to from minimum weight to light flyweight to fight Jaro.
Veteran boxing analyst Moy Lainez said Jaro was ?simply too strong for the smaller Alcos.? Jaro improved his fight record to 27-6-5 with 17 knockouts. Denoy, on the other hand, has a record of 17-6-1 with 9 knockouts.
In his last fight on February 11, Denoy scored sixth round technical decision over Michael Rodriguez after an accidental head-butt opened up a nasty gash on Denoy and they went to the scorecards where Denoy won handily.
Denoy and Sonny Boy Jaro clashed in an RP title fight last September 17 which was declared a technical draw after Denoy was cut above the eye due to an accidental head-butt by Jaro who was also deducted a point for a similar offense in the third round. Two of the judges scored the fight even while one judge had Denoy ahead.
