GORRES-DARCHINYAN REF SUFFERS HEART ATTACK By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 19 Feb 2008 New Zealand referee Lance Revill recently suffered a heart attack reportedly reading some nasty press about his refereeing job in the controversial IBF super flyweight title fight between Z ?The Dream? Gorres and Australia?s Vic Darchinyan last February 2 in Cebu City. Revill, who was named referee after the Gorres camp objected to the IBF?s assignment of Australian John Wright as the third man in the ring, informed his friend, respected international referee Bruce McTavish in an email that he was sitting at his desk reading the bad press when he said ?I got this terrible pain and tight feeling in my chest. They rushed me to hospital where it was diagnosed that I had a heart attack.? Revill spent three days in hospital and underwent a series of tests and would have to return in five weeks and have more tests. Revill said he had ?a great time in Cebu? meeting McTavish who has lived in Angeles City for the past 40 years and is married to the charming Carmen Tayag of the illustrious Tayag family of Pampanga, well-known boxing patron Tony Aldeguer and his sons. The New Zealand referee said ?I really enjoyed visiting the ALA Gym and taking Boom Boom (Bautista) on the pads.? The referee admitted that he made a ?bad call in the first round (when he called a slip by Gorres a knockdown) and then evened it out later on? but added ?life goes on. I have to forget about it... I just have to learn not to take things to heart.? The bad call by Revill resulted in the throwing of plastic water bottles from the audience that unsettled the referee throughout the fight.
