GORRES READY TO FIGHT MONTIEL IN REMATCH By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 16 Feb 2008 Z ?The Dream? Gorres who salvaged a controversial draw in an IBF title eliminator against former world flyweight champion and IBO super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan last February 2, is ready to face WBO champion Fernando Montiel in a rematch. Youthful Michael Aldeguer, who has assumed the mantle of heading the ALA Gym boxing operations from his well-known father and boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, said Gorres who was clearly robbed of the title in a hugely controversial decision in his first clash with Montiel in Cebu last February ?if a formal offer comes, we are open to a rematch.? Aldeguer said Gorres was ?rearing to go? and would soon return to the gym, completely dispelling what was regarded as a ridiculous statement by Darchinyan?s trainer Billy Hussein who claimed that Gorres ?is in hospital and might never fight again.? Gorres had to go to hospital to have the nasty gash across his forehead inflicted by a head-butt from Drachinyan attended to. In an overseas telephone conversation Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said that should Montiel retain his title against Martin Castillo this weekend. Arum said ?its a tough fight and if Montiel wins I would like to arrange a title defense against Gorres? on ?Latin Fury IV? in Mexico City which will feature Jorge Arce and the younger Chavez, Omar, follow sometime after his Latin Fury III on April 26 which will also include NABF super bantamweight champion Bernabe Concepcion. The astute international promoter said the 20 year old Concepcion was ?a tremendous prospect and the Mexicans love him? especially after his unanimous decision over Juan Ruiz in Guanujato last February 9. WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman also praised Concepcion and said he deserved to win because he threw ?lots of combinations and very clean, powerful punches.? Arum said he ?needs permission from Golden Boy? since the Filipino southpaw is promoted by Oscar De La Hoya?s outfit but that Montiel is now promoted by Fernando Beltran. Arum told us that ?if Montiel is successful on Saturday I will ask for permission? from Golden Boy. Arum said ?I am sure I can work things out with Richard Schafer? who is the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. Arum said the first Gorres-Montiel ?Moment of Truth? was ?a terrific fight? and he hoped that Gorres would agree to the rematch.
