A Big THANK YOU Michael Marley!!! By Epifanio M. Almeda PhilBoxing.com Wed, 06 Feb 2008 Jonathan Davis. Reading Michael Marley?s 4 February 2008 Boxing Confidential article ?Jonathan Davis: His Integrity Would've Lit Up Diogenes And His Famous Lamp!? made my days. Yes ?days?, plural, because the elation I felt when I first read Michael?s ?judgment? hasn?t subsided yet. Marley wrote, ?You do not need a lamp to discover boxing?s honest man because even Ray Charles can see that he is none other than a Filipino banker named Jonathan Davis.? In giving due credit to Jon Davis, Marley trumpeted to the boxing world that a foreigner fighter can rely on the fairness and integrity of the Filipino judge. Coming from a non-Filipino, Marley?s comment is a big boost to Philippine boxing. Jon is among the boxing judges who stick to fairness irrespective of reputation, nationality or race of the fighters. To these judges, the two protagonists in the ring are simply the fighters who come from the red and blue corners. Jon confided that he received many negative comments though he found comfort in the encouragements he received as well. Foremost of which, I suppose, is from Z Gorres? manager, Michael Aldeguer, whose spirit uplifting text message Jon gladly shared with this writer. It states, ?Good morning Jon, just wanted to let you know that what you did was a class act. I for one won?t be happy if Gorres won and he didn?t deserve to win. We need people like you in boxing. My father (Tony Aldeguer) and I have more respect for you now. Thank you for putting integrity to the promotion because that is what is important to us.. win or lose?. Philippine boxing is fortunate to have Tony and Michael Aldeguer engrossed in this sport. An encouragement by way of a text message from the Gorres management is reassuring for which only Jon Davis and friends could thank for. But Boxing Confidential?s extolling Jon?s integrity to the boxing world is reputation boosting not only to Jon but to all Filipinos who know well their boxing. Michael Marley, THANK YOU!!!
