NBA -- Blazers end four-game slump
By Ryan Gallardo PhilBoxing.com Tue, 12 Nov 2019
PORTLAND -- Mired in a four-game losing streak, the season was quickly spiraling for the Portland Trail Blazers, who dropped to 4-6 and 10th place in the crowded Western Conference standings.
But at home yesterday at the Moda Center here in downtown Portland, the team got a much-needed relief by beating the Atlanta Hawks in overtime, 124-113.
Damian Lillard ended his team's drought with 30 points while C.J. McCollum hit 11 of 23 from the field to finish with 23. Hasan Whiteside added 21 points and 12 boards for Portland, which won the rebounding battle, 61-48.
"We needed it. No matter how we got it, we got," a relieved Blazers head coach Terry Sttots told ESPN.
Atlanta proved to be a tough out forcing the Blazers to an extra session after regulation ended in a 107-107 deadlock. But the 17-6 run in overtime proved to be decided.
They tarted out every quarter on a run and the same thing happened at the end. They started on a run and it was too late for them to catch back up," said Hawks guard Trae Young after leading his team with 35 points. Young, a volume shooter, converted only 9 of 30 shots and missed 10 of 13 triple attempts.
Jabari Parker tallied 27 points and 11 rebounds and Kevin Huerter and DeAndre Hunter combined for 29 markers, but Atlanta made only 42 of 104 field goals and 11 of 41 from 3-point range.
Portland improved slightly to 4-6 while Atlanta fell to 3-6 for 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
