GANOY FIGHTS JULIO DIAZ ON DONAIRE-HUSSEIN CARD

Sydney-based Filipino Rankee ?KO Kid? Ganoy gets a big break in his career when he faces former IBF world lightweight champion Julio Diaz on the undercard of the IBF/IBO flyweight title fight between Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire and Australia?s Hussein Hussein in Dubai on April 4.

Sports Nut, the sports website in Australia quoted Ganoy?s agent Stuart Duncan as saying ?contracts have been signed, sealed and delivered with this one.? Duncan said Ganoy will be fighting in an elimination bout for the IBF No. 2 spot and the ?winner of this bout will fight off against the No.1 to become a mandatory challenger to Juan ?Baby Bull? Diaz the reigning WBA/IBF/WBO champion.

Duncan said this was a big step up and a great opportunity for Ganoy who is managed by Dido Bohol of Cebu who migrated to Australia several years ago and has a stable of Filipino boxers under his care.

Former multi-division world champion Jeff Fenech who now trains Ganoy has referred to him as ?the best pure puncher I have seen.? Ganoy has won six of his last seven fights by knockout and Fenech even predicts that Ganoy will eventually replace Manny Pacquiao as the Philippines biggest boxing hero.

Ganoy? agent said that the Filipino slugger and his team have plenty of videos of Diaz to study his style and ?will be prepared for the fight of his life.?

Ganoy has a record of 20 knockouts in 24 wins although he also has 10 losses mostly earlier in his career and at times because he took fights on short notice.

In his last fight Ganoy avenged an earlier loss to Thailand?s Somchai Nakbalee with a crushing second round knockout on November 30, 2007. In his previous fight Ganoy scored a unanimous twelve round decision over tough Indonesian Joey De Ricardo on June 8 after scoring a smashing eighth round KO of Robbie Peden who had earlier lost in a featherweight title fight against Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera.

Diaz has a record of 34-4 with 25 knockouts but Duncan says Diaz has a ?suspect chin and likes to stand in front and trade blows? which is expected to favor Ganoy who has power in both hands.
