Bay Area Female Pinay Phenom to Fight on BestDamnSportsShow Card!!! PhilBoxing.com Fri, 25 Jan 2008 What a difference a year makes! Last year Ana "The Hurricane" Julaton made her 2007 debut at the S.F. Civic Auditorium in front of her home crowd and successfully defended her Nor-Cal. title winning in impressive fashion (click to watch video). Ana later went on to win the Silver medal at the US Championships and ended her amateur career as the ranked #2 boxer in the country. With the help of her idol Manny Pacquiao she was scheduled to make her Pro Debut on the undercard of Pacquiao/Barrera (video) and was truly looking forward to showcasing her skills in front of her Ka babayans (countrymen) unfortunately the fight was canceled and the storm didn't come until a month later winning her 1st fight promoted by Golden Boy Promotions against a very tough veteran who had 11 pro fights. What was most impressive about the "Hurricane" was the way she won (article), scoring 2 knockdowns onto winning a unanimous decision victory (video) Ana ended '07 by being awarded Hottest Rising Star of 2007 (video). Ana Julaton with Manny Pacquiao. Known for breaking barriers and making waves in women's boxing she returns to the ring making her 2008 debut on Fox Sports Net February 7th at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula, CA. on the undercard of the BestDamnSportsShows boxing series promoting 3 female world title bouts. Ana who has always been known for taking on challenges will be facing Carly Batey who is currently ranked #10 in the world to a six round Jr. Featherweight (122lbs) fight. Carly is best know for being on the bad end of a very controversial split decision losing to World ranked #7 boxer Monica Lovato in an 8 round title fight last year. (video) Some may criticize and say this is an unconventional direction for her career, usually a fighter of Ana's caliber would have a few 4 rounders before taking on a six round bout, not only is the "Hurricane" jumping into deep waters right away but her opponent is one of the 10 best in the world at her division. When asked why she would take on such a tough opponent Ana replied "I've always looked up to Kuya Manny (big brother Manny Pacquiao), if it wasn't for him opening the doors for us nobody would even be interested in Filipino boxing much less Women's...I feel I'm fighting for more than myself and I want to inspire people the way he inspires me. When he took on Barrera the 1st time no one gave him a chance and I'm sure when I step in the ring on that day there will be the doubters who feel I may be moving too fast or it's such a tough challenge so early in my career, but I feel with Coach Freddie by my side I can't lose!" Ana who is scheduled to arrive at Wild Card this weekend to train with Freddie Roach for her two week final push mentioned that she was very excited to be coming back and is looking forward to seeing all of her boxing stable mates and is very excited to get a chance to see another one of her boxing heroes Gerry Penalosa. " I can't wait to see Kuya Gerry, the last time I spoke with him I almost cried because of the generous compliment he gave me about my boxing skills...I truly look up to him, he is a boxing legend." |
