Highland Promotions show "History in the Philippines" did not fail to thrill and entertain fans last Saturday, August 3, at Barangay Vergara's Covered Court in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila; fans now asking for more.

In the main event, the always popular Iloilo-native, former WBC Minimumweight Silver Champion Denver "The Excitement" Cuello (38-5-6, 26 KO's) needed less than six minutes to stop younger Thai fighter former muay thai combatant Detnarong Omkrathok (3-10-1 KO) to retain for the first time his Asian Boxing Federation Bantamweight Title.

With the win, the 32-year-old Cuello (top photo) keeps on pressing forward his boxing career, willing to take on more challenging battles.

SINGH WINS PBF MIDDLEWEIGHT

In another title clash, Indian-Pinoy middleweight warrior "The Punjabi Lion" Prabjoth Singh (8-4-1, 7 KO's) of Meycauayan, Bulacan, dropped and decisioned fearless Edsil "Toto" Jungco (3-13, 7 KO's) of Iloilo to clinch the vacant Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) Middleweight Title.

Jessebelle was four pounds heavier than Charimae. Still, she could not overpower Charimae, their fight going the full distance.

Cambodian-American Heavyweight Eric Pen wins by KO in Mandaluyong.

In heavyweights, veteran Indonesian heavyweights David Koswara (12-16-2, 4 KO's) could not handle the power and brutality of hard-hitting Cambodian-American Eric Pen (4-0, 4 KO's), the Indonesian succumbing in the the very first round.

During the weigh-in, the affable David Koswara made 260 pounds, while the taller Pen come much lighter at 238 lbs.

In his prior fight, Eric Pen, 26, claimed the WBA ASIA SOUTH Heavyweight belt by stopping experienced Satria Antasena in two chapters in a melee last May in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. His title was not on the line.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT MILES SIMSON VAPORIZES RUSIADI

In another knockout result, light heavyweight brawler Miles "The Punisher" Simson (3-0, 2 KO) of Suriname massacred Indonesian Bambang Rusiadi (9-9, 4 KO's) for a crushing round two knockout.

MORE FIGHTS FOR "HISTORY IN THE PHILIPPINES: SHOWDOWN"

In a LUZPROBA war, Gensan's "Demolition Man" Alie Laurel (16-4-1, 10 KO's) recorded a unanimous decision win over tough 24-year-old Mindoro Oriental warrior Lloyd Jardeliza (8-10-4, 6 KO's) to conquer the LUZPROBA (Luzon Professional Boxing Association) Featherweight Strap.

Eduardo Mancito (17-10-2, 9 KO's) of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, wins in Mandaluyong.

Also, "The Nightmare" Eduardo Mancito (17-10-2, 9 KO's) of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, claimed a round five technical decision win over brave late-sub Jeson Berwela (4-31, 2 KO's) of the paradise island of Camarines Sur. Their tough battle was in the super featherweight division.

Moreover, Benguet veteran Nathan Bolcio with a weight of 143 pounds could do nothing at all against the heavier Boholano Carlo Magali who was at 152 lbs, being stopped in less than 3 minutes. For the clash, Bolcio wore 8 ounces gloves and Magali 10 ounces gloves, as ordered by the GAB. At the end, two ounces did not make much difference, Magali just bulldozed hard over Bolcio.

The easy victory takes the 32-year-old Carlo Magali back to the winning column after successive defeats in Japan and Thailand.

RESULTS FOR PRELIMINARY BOUTS

In a preliminary clash, 19-year-old minimumweight fighte Jonathan Almacen (6-3-2, 2 KO's) of Muntinlupa, Metro Manila, stopped in two rounds unheralded 36-year-old Benjie Bartolome (2-14-2, 0 KO's) of La Trinidad, Benguet.

Plus, 21-year-old local Mandaluyong flyweight Fernan Agencia (4-0, KO's) kept his undefeated record intact by edging via split decision confusing southpaw "Astroboy" Junuel Lacar (7-5-3, 5 KO's) of Malabon City, Metro Manila. Not an easy 6-rounder clash for the two warriors.

But at the end, the result was a successful one for Agencia, who whose barkada and relatives were in attendance thrilled with their boy's narrow win.

In addition, rookie 105-pounder Harry Omac (1-0, 1 KO) of La Trinidad, Benguet, entered with success into pro boxing by stopping in the very first chapter local fighter Rosendo Autida (0-2, 0 KO's) of Mandaluyong.

Whats more, 20-year-old pro boxing debutant Herlan Gomez (1-0, 1 KO) of Lipa City, Batangas, overpowered local southpaw fighter Ariel Enriquez (0-1-1, 0 KO's) in three frames. Their duel was a scheduled 4-chapter saga in the super flyweight division. But Gomez made it short.

In the "curtain raiser" bout of the show, Twenty-year-old featherweight "Young Gun" MJ Uduna (3-1-2, 0 KO's) of the beautiful Cordillera Province of Ifugao scored a majority decision win over 21-year-old Jasper "El Chino" Cayno (1-7-2, 1 KO) of Las Pi?as City, Metro Manila.

The exciting boxing action last Saturday, August 3, at the Covered Court in Barangay Vergara in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, was a production of promoter Brico Santig, director of the Highland Boxing Team in partnership with young award-winning promoter Darwin Miller Angelo Dep-ay of DMAD Boxing Promotions, co-promoter Ermelito Nacar, Jr., the Naris Singwancha Foundation, CYDC Promotions, Saigon Sports Club and the government of the City of Mandaluyong.
