RUBILLAR-OMAR NI?O ELIMINATOR GOES TO PURSE BID

The WBC has sent out a ?Final Reminder? regarding the scheduled purse bid for the light flyweight title final elimination between OPBF champion Juanito Rubillar of the Philippines and former world champion Omar Ni?o of Mexico.
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman informed all promoters registered with the world organization that they will conduct the purse offer on January 14 in Mexico City. There will also be seven other purse bids on the same day.
Rubillar who is ranked No. 2 by the WBC has a record of 41-10-7 with 19 knockouts while No.1 ranked Omar Ni?o has a record of 24-2-1 with 10 knockouts. The winner of the title eliminator gets a shot at world champion Edgar Sosa.
A free negotiation period was ordered by Sulaiman after discussions at the recent WBC 45th Annual Convention in Manila. He sent letters to the fighters and their handlers but initial conversations between Viva Sports and Omar Ni?o?s promoter Gary Shaw at the request of Rubillar?s manager Gabriel ?Bebot? Elorde didn?t work out, because the former world champion?s promoter was asking for too much as a purse in addition to the other perks.
Rubillar is coming off a fifth round TKO over mandatory OPBF contender Beung Joo Lee of South Korea in a fight where internationally known referee Kenny Bayliss was the third man in the ring.
Ni?o won the title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Brian Viloria on August 10, 2006 and then retained the title with a draw on November 18, 2006. However, Ni?o tested positive for a banned substance in a post-fight drug test and the title was declared vacant.
Viloria was given another crack at the title but lost to top contender Edgar Sosa (30-5,16 KO's) who subsequently defended his title successfully three times.
