SULAIMAN WARNS PACQUIAO NOT TO TAKE MARQUEZ LIGHTLY By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 13 Dec 2007 WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman has warned Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao not to take his rematch with WBC super featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez lightly because he may be in for a shock. In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Sulaiman said he had a message for Pacquiao because he had heard that Pacquiao was ?not totally devoting himself to his conditioning in preparation for the big fight of his life.? Sulaiman warned that ?if he does not dedicate himself and bear the responsibility as a hero of the Philippines he might have the biggest surprise of his life.? The WBC president who recently marked his 32 year as leader of the world?s most prominent boxing organization said he had seen in his life many great boxers fall down because they "underestimated their rivals and dedicated some of their time to doing matters outside boxing that were not for their own good.? He expressed the hope that Pacquiao ?does not do these things and he understands that he has a big rival to win the championship of the world.? In the meantime, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is expected to arrive on December 16 to attend Pacquiao?s 29th birthday the following day in General Santos City. Pacquiao?s friend and confidant Rex ?Wakee? Salud said that Pacquiao may leave for the US with Arum as originally planned for a Los Angeles press conference to promote the rematch with Marquez but that they would probably hold a news conference in Manila prior to Arum?s departure on the 19th.
