NBA -- LaVine shines as Bulls tame Pelicans, 128-116

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls' version of the Big 3 didn't make its debut Sunday night as 7-foot forward Lauri Markannen sat on the bench while continuing to recover from a bum elbow that will sideline him for up to eight weeks.
But the 1-2 punch of Zach LaVine and Jabari Parker was more than enough to lift the Bulls past the Pelicans, 128-116, in front of a roaring crowd of 17,861 at the United Center..
Showing effects of the torn ACL he sustained two seasons ago in Minnesota, LaVine balled for 24 minutes and made the most of it with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists. The 6-foot-9 Parker, a former Milwaukee Buck who was signed by his hometown team for two-years and $40 million, finished with 15 markers and eight rebounds.
Down 97-91 after three quarters, the Bulls used a 37-19 fourth quarter explosion to put away the visitors. Bobby Portis, who had 21 off the bench, was the catalyst for Chicago in the stretch run. The Bulls ended up shooting 49 of 99 field goals (49.5 percent) while New Orleans converted 44 of 97 (45.4 percent.)
Jrue Holiday led the Pelicans with 16 and four assists. Anthony Davis played only 16 minutes and managed with 13 points and four rebounds. Julius Randle, a former Laker, added 15 points with five rebounds.
The Pelicans head off to Atlanta to face the Hawks on Tuesday while the Bulls face the Bucks in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
