USA Elite High Performance Team Sets Sights on Gold at World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025 PhilBoxing.com Sun, 29 Jun 2025 Eleven Athletes Set to Compete at World Boxing Cup Event ASTANA, Kazakhstan (June 28, 2025) – Team USA is just days away from learning who will stand in their way of a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025. This marks the second World Boxing World Cup of the year, following the first, which took place earlier this year in Brazil. The World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025 draw will take place this Sunday, June 29, and the event will run from June 30 through July 7 at Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Combat Sports in Astana, Kazakhstan. This marks the third international event of 2025 for the Team USA Elite High Performance roster, and the Stars and Stripes will enter Kazakhstan after securing a total of 14 medals from the previous two events. Team USA will be represented by women's 54 kg boxer, Yoseline Perez (Houston, Texas), who has dominated so far in 2025, earning a silver medal in the World Boxing Cup: Brazil 2025 and a gold medal at the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem. Additionally, Alyssa Mendoza, a Paris 2024 Olympian, earned a gold medal while in the Czech Republic and will also compete in Astana. The Caldwell, Idaho, native will look to carry her momentum from the World Boxing Challenge into the second World Boxing Cup and secure her first medal in this year's World Boxing Cup series. Also representing the United States women’s roster in Kazakhstan are three additional Paris 2024 Olympians who have all earned bronze medals so far this year, Jennifer Lozano (Laredo, Texas; 51 kg), Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.; 60 kg), and Morelle McCane (Cleveland, Ohio; 65 kg). Rounding out the women's team at next week’s event is Marie Rosendo (Deland, Fla.), who secured a silver medal in the Czech Republic, marking her first international appearance and medal on the USA Boxing High Performance team. Moving on to the men's team, the red, white, and blue will be led by team captain and 2021 World Champion Robby "Rahim" Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.; 80 kg). Gonzales earned a bronze medal at the World Boxing Challenge Grand Prix Usti Nad Labem and will look to stay in attack mode in Kazakhstan. Also earning medals in the Czech Republic were Malachi Georges (Teaneck, N.J.; 90 kg) and Rene Camacho (Houston, Texas; 65 kg). The two boxers will look to stay hot after earning their first international medals. Each boxer secured multiple wins in the Czech Republic, resulting in Georges earning a silver medal and Camacho a bronze medal. Rounding out the men's team will be Thomas Covington (Detroit, Mich.; 60 kg) and Orlando Zamora (Turlock, Calif.; 55 kg). Both boxers have shown tremendous promise in their first international bouts of the year and will now look to turn the page and secure their first international wins and medals at the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025. USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will lead the charge for Team USA at the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025. National Resident Coach Timothy Nolan (Rochester, N.Y.), Nicole Burleson (Bethany, Okla.), and Eric Zimmerman (Alexandria, Va.) will assist Coach Walsh during the World Boxing Cup: Astana 2025.
