TABASTABAS - THE NEW WIBA YOUTH LIGHTFLYWEIGHT CHAMPION

PhilBoxing.com

Geremie Tabastabas won the vacant WIBA (Women?s Int?l Boxing Association) Youth Lightflyweight championship over opponent Jujeath Nagawa last night, November 24, in the ?Bakbakan sa Elorde? held at the Flash Grand Ballroom, Elorde Sports Complex in Sucat Para?aque.

Tabastabas used her height and reach advantage by fighting at a distance scoring a unanimous decision win. The scores were 77 ? 76, and 77 ? 75 twice. The fight was scheduled for 8 rounds.

Nagawa was too predictable on her attacks ? lunging right wallops. In the early rounds, Nagawa attacked Tabastabas?s body but failed to land good combinations as her opponent would counter with a 1 - 2 combination. Nagawa?s last round aggressiveness was cheered on by the crowd as she landed most of her attacks, winning the round, but not enough to win the fight.

In the supporting main event, Edgar Gabejan handed down opponent Jason Egera his second loss as he won by unanimous decision in their 10-round match in the 122lb division.

Both fighters engaged in a grueling slugfest on all rounds to the delight of the crowd. Everything changed for Gabejan in the 4th as he landed a crisp right uppercut to Egera?s jaw. Egera was never the same afterwards. He got hurt badly many times and fell down on the 9th but the referee ruled it a slip. Egera got cut on the lower left eyebrow in the 3rd and another in the 8th on his right eyebrow. Both were from accidental headbutts. Gabejan was deducted a point from each cut. He was also warned for a lowblow on the 4th. The judges saw it 96 ? 93, 96 ? 92, and 95 ? 93.

Other results:

Smelven Bujas got hurt in the last round from a left uppercut to the abdomen from opponent Slyvester Lopez and escaped with a split decision win in their 4-round Jr Bantamweight match. A judge scored it 38 ? 37 for Lopez while the two saw it 38 ? 37 and 39 ? 36 for Bujas.

Jaypee Otilla got his second career win by a TKO over opponent Arman Ambadang in their 4-round match in the super flyweight division. The referee stopped the fight at 2?24?? in the 2nd as Ambadang failed to fight back after being knocked down twice in the same round.

Marco Niones showed impressive fighting skills as he won by KO over opponent Jonathan Pedrosa. Pedrosa hit the canvass hard after being hit with a right hook to the face. The fight was scheduled for 4 rounds in the super flyweight division.

Bj Dela Rosa won by unanimous decision over opponent Oniot Celestino as all judges saw it 40 ? 36 in their 4-round match in the flyweight division.
