RP ALL SET TO HOST 45TH WBC CONVENTION
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 16 Oct 2007

The Philippine government, represented by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) as the lead agency, is now all set to welcome hundreds of foreign delegates from all over the world as well as some of the biggest names in boxing when it plays host to the 45th WBC Annual Convention at the historic Manila Hotel on November 11 through 17.
"After 37 years, through the cooperation of World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman and the Games and Amusements Board, the Philippines will once again play host to the most influential organization in the boxing industry," said GAB Chairman Eric Buhain, who leads the preparations for this year's annual conclave.
"This will be a gigantic milestone for bringing world-renowned boxers to our country. This year's scheduled convention is a chance for us to showcase the Philippines once again as one of the foremost countries that support and promote boxing," added Buhain, himself a former outstanding athlete.
Around 600 foreign delegates and 400 local boxing personalities are scheduled to arrive for the convention, which will also be highlighted by a courtesy call on Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Saturday, November 10.
WBC President Jose Sulaiman is expected to hit town on November 7, Wednesday, while the OPBF members arrive the following day with the OPBF Convention kicking off on the same day. On November 9, members of the WBC Ratings Committee are scheduled to arrive, while Day 2 for the OPBF convention also takes place.
On November 10 there will be a meeting among members of the ratings committee, while the members of the WBC Board of Governors are also set to arrive from their respective countries. The WBC Cares program also takes place with visits to either the Ospital ng Maynila or Philippine General Hospital.
The convention proper runs from November 11 through 16, capped by the Official Closing of the 45th WBC CONVENTION and DINNER AWARDS NIGHT for all delegates.
The Department of Tourism as well as the City of Manila have also thrown their full support to this year's WBC Convention.
