FM Rico Salimbagat leads IIEE Chessmasters team in Bundesliga By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 17 Jul 2026 FM Rico Salimbagat, a Filipino chess New York-based player known also to his famous Daycee attack not only in the board but also in kitchen with his flavory cooks, had led once again the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineer (IIEE) Chessmasters team in the 2026 Bundesliga tournament on July 17, 2026. Bundesliga is an International tournament chess online played via LiChess by more than 500 teams from different countries. IIEE chessmasters represent the Philippines with FM Salimbagat leading the charge and beating Satunnainen, a 2772 rated player from Finland. He is the first player from team IIEE to reach 900 plus lichess points and currently 2nd in the pool of candidates for the IIEE National Chess Olympiad season 8 Individual championship. Mark Del Rosario of Occidental Mindoro continue to lead the candidates with his 22nd top 8 finisher for the team. 3rd in candidate is IIEE Metro Central Randy Turreda, 4th is Bren Sasot of Laguna who have similar points of 875 with IIEE UAE Joseph Galindo but rank higher based on their rating of 2245 versus 2230. 6th to 8th are Ricardo Jimenez, Vincent Brimbuela and Jeffrey Vegas who dislodge US-based FM Steven Breckenridge. The top 2 candidates will face the 2025 Champion IM Michael Concio. In the IIEE National Chess Olympiad Season 8 team championship, FM Salimbagat will lead the International Chess Friends Federation (ICFF) with Brimbuela and team leader Ronnie Cataroja. ICFF is currently 2nd in standing after 3 rounds with 11 score and total 282 lichess points. Leading the team competition is IIEE Singapore with Vegas and team leader Julius Ampo with 12 score and 274 points. Currently 3rd is team PSME with Galindo and team leader Jherome Diaz, 4th is team Mapua with team leader Sasot, followed by IECEP (5th), 6th placer Faeldonia Chess team Philippines (FCTP) with Del Rosario and team leader Ernie Faeldonia, 7th placer Bayanihan Chess Club of NM Marlon Bernardino with team leader Dion Urbina and Turreda and lastly GMG with Jimenez and team leader NM Gerald Ferriol. The 4th round of the 8 monthly rounds will be played on July 17, 2026.
