BA-AT LOSES IN JAPAN
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 15 Oct 2007
Filipino bantamweight Jonathan Ba-at has lost by a lopsided unanimous decision to undefeated Japanese Kohei Ohba in Nagoya.
Ba-at was dropped twice in the middle rounds but fought back in the ninth round and caught Ohba with a big right although the Japanese fighter wasn?t in serious trouble.
Ohba dropped Ba-at with a vicious body shot in the fifth round according to well-known Japanese matchmaker, manager and journalist Joe Koizumi and once again decked the Filipino with ?effective combinations? in the sixth round.
Ba-at?s record dropped to 8-3-2 with 4 knockouts while Ohba improved to 20-0-1 with 10 knockouts.
Ba-at lost by a fifth round technical decision to another Japanese Mikihito Seto last July 1 and was also involved in a technical decision in a bout against Filipino Eric Rapada last August 25.
Koizumi reported that Ohba who he referred to as a Japanese version of Floyd Mayweather ?kept flicking jabs and battered the durable Filipino from the outset.?
Meantime, at the Panthers Leagues Club in Penrith, News South Wales, Australia, Robert Oyan has dropped a unanimous eight round decision to undefeated South African lightweight Mlungisi Dlamini, nicknamed ?The Shark Killer.?
In what was a mismatch based on the fighters records Dlamini was 16-0-1 with 10 knockouts while Oyan?s distressing record according to boxrec.com showed 30 defeats as against 18 wins and 4 draws with 6 wins by knockout .
