HOLY MASS AT THE PACQUIAO SUITE
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 07 Oct 2007
LAS VEGAS--The traditional Holy Mass that is part and parcel of the Pacquiao Team preparation was held today at the Pacquiao suite 61906 atop the 61st floor of The Hotel at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort.
As usual, the suite was full to the brim with the traditional Filipino politicians hugging the limelight by positioning themselves up close and personal to the sofa where Pacquiao and his wife were seated.
Everyone who is ?who-is-who? amongst the Pacquiao hangers-on was there. It was the last time they could see the Filipino boxing icon before he does battle with his Mexican counterpart, Marco Antonio Barrera.
It was also the last time they can milk the photo op with Pacquiao.
Flash photography and autograph signing was banned. The concern of the Pacquiao staff was that with the large number of people using ?point and shoot digital cameras? that do not produce good photos unless a flash was used, will somehow affect the vision of the revered boxing icon.
Photographers with sophisticated fully adjustable digital cameras were left alone to take their photos? that is if they can position themselves or find a space to take good shots
of the goings-on.
As usual, right after the last ?Amen? was said and Pacquiao has worked himself back to the comforts of his personal room at the three-room suite, Rob Peters, the burly ?close-in security man? of the team made everyone know in no uncertain terms that ?everyone should be out of the place?.
It did not take long to clear the suite. Peters? commanding voice was loud and clear. Everyone heard it.
With the last traditional ceremonial activity finally done, all that remains was for Pacquiao to rest, focus and put his heart to the fight.
Hopefully, it would not take him long to end the whole thing. Pacquiao in 7, I hope.
