TOP PINOY SPORTSWRITER TO BE ABSENT IN PACQUIAO-BARRERA REMATCH! PhilBoxing.com Fri, 05 Oct 2007 Top Filipino sports columnist Recah Trinidad will not be able to attend this Saturday's huge Pacquiao-Barrera rematch after his accreditation to the said event was rescinded today by Magnamedia International. "This letter rescinds the credential confirmation letter previously sent to you. We will not provide you with a credential to the event on Saturday," said Magnamedia in its letter to Trinidad. This came as a surprise to Trinidad, who has done extensive reporting on the event, as he has been given working pass three days ago, only to be told that it has been rescinded. Trinidad writes for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the biggest and most prestigious broadsheet in the Philippines. There was no reason cited behind Magnamedia's withdrawal of Trinidad's coverage pass, although some parties could have been offended by the veteran columnist's reports from Los Angeles and Las Vegas. "I don't have anything to explain," Trinidad said, adding he has better things to do in Manila. "My articles are already being reprinted among the media handouts at the press center. If I had violated any rules, please advise me," Trinidad told Magnamedia in his email. "This is not the first time I'm covering this kind of event, but it's only now this anomaly has happened," Trinidad said. Trinidad, who has covered at least six Olympics in his journalistic career, wrote the award-winning "Pacific Storm: Dispatches on Manny Pacquiao" which was recently given the National Book Award. "That's unfair. Pacman should help you with this case. Someone should tell him," reacted renowned jazz artist Richard Merk upon learning of the story. Merk said that Trinidad should even be thanked by organizers for his extensive coverage that brought him away from his family for nearly two months starting with the World Cup in Sacramento. |
