HORN VS GEORGE GAINS MOMENTUM

PhilBoxing.com

THE PROPOSTION OF AN ALL QUEENSLAND SUPERFIGHT between Toowoomba's Kris George and Brisbane's Jeff Horn is gaining momentum. George, the new Commonwealth welterweight champion, has long called the Horn's name - but until recent days the Horney has all but dismissed the challenge of the silencer.

It would appear Horn has stood up and taken notice following Kris George's stunning twelve round victory over Cameron Hammond - a team mate of Jeff Horn's - to win the Commonwealth title.

Horn was in Hammond's corner for the bout.

"I thought Cameron would win well and outbox Kris but he didn't throw enough punches and Kris dominated the fight," Horn said in a recent interview in a Courier Mail article.

Horn faces Ali Funeka in Auckland on Saturday night. He's chasing a shot at legendary filipino Manny Pacquiao and is proposing to fight again in Sydney in February and Brisbane in April. The Brisbane date has been labelled a real possibility for George vs Horn for the Commonwealth title.

"It gets down to what my promoters Duco Events decide," Horn said in the Courier Mail article.

"But I would love to fight Kris in Brisbane.

"He's a good puncher, very strong, but I believe I can beat him and take the Commonwealth title as well."

It's music to Kris George's ears. For over two years he's called for a bout with Jeff Horn. His calls leading to nothing so in turn he's gone about his business silencing any doubt he belongs in the same ring as Jeff Horn.

"I respect Jeff Horn and commend him on his career to date but I've always held the belief I can beat him," George said.

"I've always wanted to test myself against the best out there.

"His camp pretty much laughed off my challenge a few years ago, but now it appears they're taking me seriously.

"I've done all I can - firstly I knocked out Duco's number two welterweight in the undefeated Bowyn Morgan in his home country in front of his home fans.

"If that wasn't enough I've now defeated his training partner in Cameron Hammond, who was also undefeated.

"Jeff was there to witness it with his own eyes and in his words he said I dominated that fight.

"Prior to this bout Glenn Rushton was talking about the real possibility that Cameron and Jeff could fight for a World title - even by their own admission surely I've now earned the right to be in at least the same conversation.

"I dropped Cameron and he got up, I believe the difference here if I drop Jeff Horn - he won't be getting up.

"It's been proven he can be hurt and knocked down and I vow and declare he hasn't faced anyone who can hit as hard as I can.

"It's a great fight for the Australian public and Jeff has said he would 'love to fight me in Brisbane.'

"Well this is his lucky day because I would love to fight him in Brisbane - so let's make this happen."
