RICKY HATTON STANDS BY HIS MAN

PhilBoxing.com

ONE OF BRITAIN'S GREATEST EVER BOXERS RICKY HATTON EXPECTS Cameron Hammond to have his hand raised in victory when he meets Toowoomba's power puncher Kris George for the Commonwealth title on November 25 at Rumours International.

Hatton, a former multiple time World champion - now retired, heads up Hatton Promotions - who promote Cameron Hammond.

"Tricky fight for Cameron, but a fight I'm confident Cameron will win," Hatton said.

"Having said that he does have to go into George's home town, he's got to go into the lion's den which is never easy but I'm very confident he can win the belt and kick on from there.

"His first defence could be in the UK against one of the British fighters over here.

"We want to kick on with his career, he has a very high World ranking." Hatton said.

Ricky Hatton has shown his faith in Cameron Hammond from his amateur days. After the London Olympics Hatton signed him to his promotional company Hatton Promotions.

He's flown him all over the World in an unbeaten 16 fight career to date. From debuting in Hong Kong in 2012, he's also fought in India and all over Australia including bouts in his town of Moree.

Hatton has even flown Downunder to watch his young charge in action when he outpointed Daniel Maxwell at his second pro bout in Brisbane three years ago.

Now the man who went by the fight alias 'the hitman' wants to see Hammond win the prestigious Commonwealth title and take his career to the next level.

"It's a very proud moment for any Australian fighter to become a Commonwealth Champion," Hatton said.

"It would be nice for Cameron to win the title then if he can fight one of the British contenders I would be confident in his ability to handle himself against that type of opposition.

"If he can beat a few of the British contenders it will build up his fan base over here as well so this fight against Kris George is a very important fight.

"Hopefully it'll kick start him and his career can really crack on from there."

Hatton also believes Cameron Hammond has quietly gone about his business and is flying under the radar - but that will all change if he can win the Commonwealth title.

"He wins that title it opens the door for him to make a name for himself in Britain and it'll certainly help his World ranking," Hatton said.

"Cameron has been progressing really really well.

"When he first turned pro he probably still had that amateur style but he's moulded now into a good all round professional.

"He can mix it up in close quarters and with that long range he's turned into he's turned into a good all round pro.

"It's only a matter of time until people hear his name more often."
