By Jojo Salvador PhilBoxing.com Sun, 26 Aug 2007

Gerry Pe?alosa, the new WBO Bantamweight Champion of the World is accorded with a surprised hero's welcome in his native city of San Carlos, Negros Occidental.
It was 3 days after he grabbed the WBO Bantamweight Belt in Sacramento, when Gerry Pe?alosa recieved a call from Jojo Salvador, the Secretary General of the San Carlos City Boxing Club and congratulated the new champion. Salvador casually asked the champ when he was scheduled to come home. Gerry said he wants to come home on Thursday the 23rd.
Wasting no time, the club in coordination with the City government prepared a surprise hero's welcome.
When Gerry arrived at the City port at around 8:45AM, he was surprised to see a band, vehicles with sirens and all the works for a motorcade. He asked Jojo what is going on, and the club's SecGen said it was to honor him.
ABS-CBN, and other media practisioners in Negros were invited to cover the event.
Chairman of the club, Hon. Vice Mayor Gingo Valmayor, personally met the champ at the pier. New City's Police Chief, Col. Harold Tuzon and Club's Treasurer Joel Labor in coordination with the City Sports office managed the motorcade.
A 45 minute motorcade around the City which was participated by the club members, San Carlos Rescue Unit, City Officials, even Provincial Board members Rene Gustilo and Nene Dela Cruz and many others, was very much warmly welcomed by the residents of the city. The end point was the City Hall where handshakes of congratulations not only from government but people of all walks life were recieved by the champ.
After a short chat with the Mayor, a no hold bar press conference was held at the city's Council's Session Hall.
According to Mayor Bong Lacson, the city's residents are very proud of the honor that Gerry has brought to the City and this is just a humble way the city can return that honor.
