UNBEATEN MARAON STOPS MAGALE PhilBoxing.com Sat, 11 Aug 2007 One of the country's top bantamweight prospects, Jundy "Pretty Boy" Maraon, came out of a six-month layoff to knock out Cebu's Carlo Magale in the 4th round of a scheduled 10-round fight at the Magpet Municipal Gymnasium in Magpet, North Cotabato Friday night. Maraon, originally from Suminot, Zamboanga del Sur and now fighting out of the Braveheart Boxing Club of Vice Governor Manny Pinol and Fil-Am Rolando Hiso of Chicago, came out strong in the first and second rounds staggering Magale with crisp combinations to the body and the head. But the game and tough Magale came back in the third round catching Maraon with a thunderous right towards the end of the round causing a cut on the latter's forehead. Sensing trouble if the fight would last the distance, Maraon pressed the fight in the 4th pummeling Magale with body blows before unleashing a cracking left straight that caught the Cebu fighter neat on the chin sending Magale to the canvas. The referee stopped the fight 47 seconds of the 4th after a visibly dazed and hurt Magale tried to beat the count but staggered as he stood up. The win improved Maraon's record to 11 wins (8 KOs) with 1 draw. Maraon, a southpaw, along with junior featherweight standout Glenn "Rapid Fire" Gonzales, bantamweight Glenn Porras and Minimumweight Edren Dapudong, all WBO Asia Pacific Titleholders, is being groomed to fight in Chicago. Arrangements are now being handled by his Chicago-based co-manager Rolly Hiso. The other results: Junior featherweight prospect Reynaldo Belandres, knocked down veteran Mario de Asis in the 1st round, en route to an outstanding eight round unanimous decision victory bringing his record to an immaculate 4 wins (2 KOs) in 4 professional fights. Junior featherweight Rolando Magbanua outpointed Cebu's Rolan Econas in six rounds to maintain his winning streak and bring his record to 4 wins (2 KOs) in 4 professional outings. Bantamweight Lorenzo Villanueva knocked out Ranie Pamatian of Butuan City at 35 seconds of the 2nd round and keep a spectacular record of 4 wins with 4 knockouts in 4 professional fights. Another outstanding Braveheart fighter, Minimumweight Romel Asenjo knocked out John Cailing of Aljoe Jaro Boxing Club in the 2nd round of a scheduled 6 to continue a winning streak since he turned professional. He now holds a record of 4 wins with 4 knockouts in 4 pro fights. Junior flyweight Jermie Jabel, another Braveheart fight, won his second professional fight for a 2-0 win-loss record while flyweight Ronnie Apelado, also of Braveheart Boxing Club, outpointed veteran Angel Castromayor of Butuan City for a professional record of 2 wins (1 KO) in 2 pro fights. Belandres, Magbanua, Villanueva, Asenjo, Apelado and Jabel are all former amateur boxing standouts produced by Cuban national coach Honorato Espinosa who stayed in North Cotabato for over 1 year. |
