DUNO SUFFERS FIRST SETBACK IN RUSSIA

PhilBoxing.com

?RUTHLESS? Romero Duno of General Santos City suffered his first setback from the hands of a still undefeated Russian Mikhail Alexeev by a unanimous decision in their championship fight for the WBO Intercontinental super featherweight crown last May 7 at the DIVS in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Duno suffered a nasty cut on his left eye due to a headbutt in the third round.

?Natamaan si Duno ng headbutt several times that?s why he has a cut above the left eye and a bruised sa lower right eye,? said manager Dexter ?Wangyu? Tan, chief finance officer of Sanman Promotions.

?Duno also suffered a low blow a couple times and made his face messy from the dirty headbutts. Magaling mag headbutt and kalaban,? added Tan in his text message.

Duno, now with 9 wins, 8 KOs and 1 loss, hurt the Russian in the first round and almost knocked him down in the 7th round.

Alexeev won by throwing more punches compared to Duno?s power punches.

?It was a good fight for Duno and experience. Fighting outside is not an easy task for him. I hope he learned something and I know he will bounce back as a champion coz he is a brave young boxer and a fighter,? said Tan.

However, Alexeev, who improved his record to 8 straight wins with 3 KOs, will be making his title-defense against Duno?s stablemate Rimar Metuda on July 11 according to promoter German Titov.

Metuda was also supposed to fight in the same card for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Intercontinental Youth featherweight title but it was cancelled after his opponent Mark Urvanov (6W-1L-0D-3KOs) was hospitalized due to dehydration before the weigh-in.

The 20-year old Duno, who recently captured the Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) super featherweight crown by stopping Jason Egera in the 8th round last February 13 at the Gaisano Mall Gensan.

Metuda, 22, is currently the vacant WBF Asia Pacific featherweight title via a 5th round TKO win over Jason Tinampay last September 26, 2015 in Gensan.
