NBA -- Warriors' historic magic number down to 7 games

PhilBoxing.com

OAKLAND --- After beating the game but overwhelmed Philadelphia 76ers, 117-105, on Sunday night at the Oracle Arena, the defending champions Golden State Warriors are inching much closer to history.

With a 66-7 record, the Warriors need just seven more victories to eclipse the NBA record of 72-10 which the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls accomplished during the 1995-96 season. But with six of their nine remaining games set to take place at the Oracle Arena, where they are 34-0 this season, the Warriors have a real good shot at establishing a new record.

Below is the list of Golden State's remaining games:

1) March 29 versus Wizards (Oracle Arena)
2) March 30 versus Jazz (Vivint Smart Home Arena in Utah)(
3) April 1 versus Celtics (Oracle Arena)
4) April 3 versus Blazers (Oracle Arena)
5) April 5 versus Wolves (Oracle Arena)
6) April 7 versus Spurs (Oracle Arena)
7) April 9 versus Grizzlies (FedEx Forum in Memphis)
8) April 10 versus Spurs (AT&T Center in San Antonio)
9) April 13 versus Grizzlies (Oracle Arena)

Of the Warriors' upcoming foes, the San Antonio Spurs present the most threat. A deep and talented squad, Spurs are 61-12 and are also undefeated at their home floor, the AT&T Center, where they are 37-0 this season.

The Grizzlies have always been a tough out but with Marc Gasol out for the rest of the season and Mike Conley nursing a tender ankle, the Warriors are favored to beat them on their two remaining meetings. The Celtics are 43-30 and are playoffs bound but the Wizards and the Jazz are both below the .500 mark and Golden State should be able to handle them.

Portland is on the rise at 38-36 while the Wolves are 24-49. The Warriors are also heavily favored to beat these two teams.

In the end, it looks a lot like the Warriors will set a new regular season record when everything is said and done. (RM)
