AFTER THE WEIGH-IN, THE MOMENT OF TRUTH By Rod Mijares PhilBoxing.com Sat, 21 Jul 2007 Amonsot (R) and Katsidis pose after making weight. One night separates the moment of truth. Will the “King” treat the “Czar” as one of his humbled subjects or the “Czar” subjects the “King” to his first defeat? Australian Michael “Rocky” Katsidis sometimes called the “King” by his fans and the reigning WBO Interim lightweight champion at 22 wins (20 KO) no loses comes in at 135 lbs. even. The challenger, Filipino Augusto Caesar “the Czar of Bohol” Amonsot sporting a record of 18 wins (10 KO), 2 loses and 1 draw comes in very fit at 133 lbs. The weigh-in was characterized with the two eyeing each other, trying to psyche each other’s strong points or weaknesses and with no word exchanges between the two. Compared to the main event of the “Coming to Fight” card, the weigh-in at exactly 2:30 p.m. of Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins and Winky Wright who both came in at 170 lbs. and are fighting for Hopkins’ Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight Title was all brawl between the two and their entourage. It needs more than one cooler heads to separate the two. It was just plain entertainment before the actual brawl to the delight of the thousands of fans who witness the official weigh-in at Mandalay Bay’s Event Center. The other televised undercard’s weigh-in between Oscar “Chololo” Larios and Jorge Linares for the WBC Featherweight Title was all friendly, smiles with handshakes and everything. This is typical of the smiling Larios who previously lost to Manny Pacquio last July 2, 2006 at Araneta Coliseum in the Philippines. “Amonsot is in his best shape ever and totally prepared for this fight. We like his chances to win,” said his manager, Michael Aldeguer when asked what are Amonsot’s chances of winning. “He put all his problems behind him, he has a complete turn-around and he his totally committed for this fight.” Amonsot and Katsidis fight will be the third fight before the main event and could be the second televised fight of the “Coming to Fight” card. The first televised pay per view fight is an 8-round bout between super middleweights Librado Andrade of Mexico and Ted Muller of Illinois, USA. Referee for the Amonsot and Katsidis fight is Jay Nady of Las Vegas, Nevada and the judges are Patricia Morse Jarman and C.J. Ross both of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ruben Garcia of Alice, Texas.
