AMONSOT DETERMINED TO ADD ONE MORE WORLD TITLE

PhilBoxing.com

WBO Asia Pacific lightweight champion Czar Amonsot who has a record of 18-2-1 with 10 knockouts is determined to continue the Filipinos winning streak and add one more world title to the IBF crowns won by the classy Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire and the rugged Florante “The Little Pacquiao” Condes two weekends ago.

Amonsot battles WBO interim champion Michael Katsidis who is regarded as one of the most exciting fighters today and a certified knockout artist who has an undefeated record of 22-0 with 20 KO’s and has won thirteen fights in a row within the distance. The fifth round stoppage of Graham Earl in an interim title fight last February is regarded as a candidate for “Fight of the Year.”

Katsidis has predicted in a conversation with well-known boxing writer Steve Kim that the 21 year old Filipino southpaw is going to be in for “one helluva fight” adding “you can guarantee who they put in front of me, I’m going to destroy.”

But this is basically what the arrogant and abrasive undefeated light flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan, another Australian said prior to his title clash with Donaire who gave him a neat boxing lesson before knocking him out cold in the fifth round with a picture-perfect left hook. Amonsot looks to take heart from what Donaire did.

Outstanding Filipno trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor who helped prepare Amonsot for the fight of his life along with the celebrated two-time “Trainer of the Year” Freddie Roach at his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles said Amonost is “ready to fight. Ready to win.”

Respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer said Amonsot told him he was "very confident and sure of himself" and that fight fans can't ask for more. Aldeguer said that Amonsot who has sparred more than sixty rounds is "very much ready and can't afford to let his chance go by. The 21 year old southpaw is “physically fit and mentally prepared to face all odds” according to trainer and former two-time world title challenger Villamor. But what was important to Villamor is that Amonsot has shown greater discipline than ever before and follows instructions.

Popular Mayor and sportsman Dan Neri Lim of Tagbilaran City who flew to Las Vegas just to provide Amonsot with all the moral support he needs and is returning home Saturday even before the fight. Aldeguer said Mayor Lim was "very, very happy" with what he saw and that Amonsot appreciated his gesture very much.

Lim, according to philboxing.com told Amonsot to consider the title fight against Katsidis as “the last fight of your life. You have to amaze your countrymen and make them proud and happy.” At the same time, knowing his tendency to get angry when he is hit and to lose his focus Mayor Lim advised Amonsot to “keep his cool, keep his poise and most importantly ask God for help.”

Roach, in an earlier conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today said Amonsot had been “boxing and looking very good in training” and they had an advantage because he said “I trained the boy he’s fighting.” Roach predicted “it should be a good fight.”
