Holy Trinity bags 5th straight title in PCCL Minda Finals

PhilBoxing.com

HOLY Trinity College of General Santos City came back strong in their rematch against top qualifier and host Saint Columban College of Pagadian City via an 86-80 win to again rule the Philippine College Champions League (PCCL) Mindanao Finals Thursday at the SCC gym.

The HTC Wildcats quickly made a good start with a 23-17 run in the first quarter and never looked back to earn their fifth straight title in the Mindanao Finals.

HTC will again advance into the Vis-Min Finals against the Visayas champion and two teams from CESAFI for the right to play in the National Championships in Manila.

HTC finished the second quarter at 45-36 and widen its lead by 15 points, 68-53 after the third canto.

?Nag-adjust lang ako sa depensa at binilisan lang naming ang tempo,? said HTC coach Pol Torrijos.

Ever Joy Dialogo and Leo Mark Salas both led HTC with 18 points apiece while Joseph Diamante and Louie Omadle added 15 and 14 markers, respectively.

Cameroonian import Timothe Etoundi only scored two points but provided HTC the support in defense and rebounds. The other HTC players were Joewish Gracia, Excell Nocos, Ian Argientes, Ian Domingo, John Oliver Morales, Wahed Abu and Edmer Bacalso.

HTC earlier bowed to SCC, 86-90 in the elimination round to finish with two wins and one loss behind SCC (3-0).

HTC first crushed Davao?s St. John Paul II College of Davao, 80-69 in the opening day last November 17 then demolished Southern College of Zamboanga City, 88-68 the next day.

SCC, on the other hand, routed SC, 105-95 then nipped SJPC, 80-77. SJPC, however, bounced back with a 98-65 rout against SC to bring home the third place trophy..

PCCL Executive Joe Lipa said HTC will next face the Visayas winner and two other teams from Cesafi to vie for the right to play in the PCCL Championships on December 14 in Manila.

The PCCL Mindanao Finals was held for the first time in Pagadian thru the efforts and initiative of sportsman-businessman Rene "Dodong" Pamaran.

It was supported by the city government, Mayor Tata Pulmones, Aquaworld Purified Water and Rocky Chan. ? LITO DELOS REYES
