SANTA CRUZ, MARES MAKE WEIGHT; COMPLETE WEIGHIN RESULTS AT STAPLES

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES -- Today on a hot summer afternoon Premier Boxing Champions Promotions held the weigh-in for tomorrow?s blockbuster at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The headliners for the fight, Leo Santa Cruz of La Puente and Abner Mares of Downey , easily made weight.

Leo Santa Cruz stepped on the scales and registers 124.8 pounds.

Not to be outdone, challenger Abner Mares presents at 125.2 pounds.

The Santa. Cruz-Mares non-title fight is dubbed as ?one of the most anticipated boxing showdown in SoCal in the recent years?, will allow the winner bragging rights as the best featherweight in the whole of LA and along the way collect the non-descript WBC Diamond belt reportedly ?worth millions? by Mauricio Sulaiman.

Leo Santa Cruz (30-0-1,17KO) is the current WBC super bantamweight champion and is stepping up to featherweight to take on Abner Mares (29-1-1,15KO), a former three-division world champion who himself has gone up in weight class lately.

The fight promises to be a great one with the challenger Mares stating that Sta. Cruz.

Is not in his level. ?Santa Cruz is not on my level. You can say all you want, that he is a former two-division world champion but he is not at my level. He hasn?t beaten anyone at bantamweight or super bantamweight,? Mares said.

But Santa Cruz is not worried at all and ignores Mares? words. He stated:- ?Ever since, I don?t know what words to describe him as but he doesn?t look as good as before. Mentally I don?t know what happened. I don?t know if the punch (referring to the Johnny Gonzales one punch KO of Mares) changed him,? Santa Cruz said.?

Mares completed his training camp at his headquarters the Del Mares Gym in Bell Gardens with trainer Clemente Medina. Santa Cruz held his camp with his father Jose Santa Cruz at the Who?s Next Boxing Gym in the City of Industry.

The rest of the weights are as follows:
