JAPAN UPDATE: OSAKI DEFEATS SINGHTOTHONG, NIKI FINISHES SUBSTITUTE PHETCHBHUNPHAN By Joe Koizumi PhilBoxing.com Tue, 29 May 2007 OSAKI DEFEATS SINGHTOTHONG KYOTO, JAPAN, (5-27-07) -- Unranked speedster Joji Osaki (10-3-1, 5 KOs), 139.75, scored an upset unanimous decision (98-93 twice and 97-94) over OPBF#8 ranked Thai national 147-pound champ Singhtothong Fluoridegym (12-5, 11 KOs), 140, over ten rounds on Sunday in Kyoto, Japan. Osaki, the national winner of Novice King four-round tournaments in 2005, made good use of his faster hand and feet to pile up points except in the fifth when the Thailander almost caught the Japanese with heavier straight rights. Such an upset victory of a Japanese unranked boxer over an OPBF ranked foreign national ruler may again cause a problem inside of Japan, as the Japan Boxing Commission will ignore the result without newly rating Osaki, while the OPBF will have to rank him in the regional ratings due to his unexpected triumph. Then some ridiculous writers who have no knowledge on fight results outside of Tokyo may criticize the OPBF ratings, saying that Osaki isn$B!G(Bt ranked even in the JBC ratings but rated in the OPBF ratings. Another problem is that the OPBF cannot drop the national champ out of the regional ratings despite his defeat in Japan. Promoter: Woz Gym. Matchmaker: Joe Koizumi. -------- NIKI FINISHES SUBSTITUTE PHETCHBHUNPHAN KITAKYUSHU, JAPAN, (5-27-07) -- A strange incident happened in a local show on Sunday in Kitakyushu, Japan. Originally a local favorite named Kazuyoshi Niki, a superbantam boxer, was scheduled to meet Thai #6 superfly Khrongchai Soh Tiabkhun, who eventually failed to come to Japan because of his urgent military service to protect ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin$B!G(Bs trial of impeachment. Niki was a main eventer whom many people gathered to see fight, so the promoter pulled out Thai #8 flyweight Phetchbhuphan Sishpra-ifah out of his semi-final bout with Kenji Ohba to make the Thailander meet Niki. Niki (18-3-1, 7 KOs), 121.75, easily caught Phetchbhuphan (9-5, 5 KOs), 121, and dispatched him at 0:25 of the fourth round in a scheduled ten. Promoter: Fukuoka Promotions.
