Two Filipino boxers have been battered and stopped in mismatches in Bangkok?s Thonburi University over the weekend.
25 year old flyweight Lionel Legada retired in the 5th round of a scheduled twelve round bout for the vacant IBF Asia title against Eaktawan Krungthepthonburi who improved to 14-2 with 10 knockouts while Legada dropped to 13-9-1 with 6 knockouts.
A report by Ray Wheatley said Eaktawan and Legada engaged in solid exchanges and traded heavy punches from round one but by round three the Thai gained control of the contest when he visibly hurt his opponent.
Boxrec.com reported that Legada quit and referee Yongsak Na Songkhla crowned the Thai boxer as the new champion.
No. 11 ranked IBF junior welterweight Patomsuk Pathompothong scored a second round knockout over a badly overmatched Ronnel Esparas in a scheduled ten round bout. The time was 1:57 of the round.
With the win the 31 year old Patomsuk improved his record to 30-3-1 with 19 knockouts while Esparas fell to 10-17-1 with 2 knockouts with 9 of his 17 defeats coming by way of kmockouts.
Esparas had lost 7 of his last 9 fights by TKO or KO and was coming off a 3rd round retirement against Al Rivera last March 6 after suffering a 6th round TKO loss to Danny McDermott of New Jersey in clash for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council super lightweight Silver title on September 13, 2014.
He had earlier quit at the end of the third round in a face off with Dan Nazareno Jr for the Philippine welterweight title.
