GAB INSULTS FILIPINOS ON INDEPENDENCE DAY

PhilBoxing.com

Games and Amusements Board chairman Ramon Guanzon who played host to the Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) convention in Bacolod City has, together with boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz, effectively insulted Filipinos on Independence Day by allowing Filipino boxer Ardie Boyse to use the family name Singwancha in the main event against WBC Youth world super featherweight champion Argie ?Bomba? Toquereo.

Last year in the face of bitter complaints from this reporter and other well-meaning boxing aficionados who condemned the practice of allowing Thai businessman Naris Singwancha to affix his name to the family name of boxers which was strongly supported by well-known internet site boxrec.com who denied an appeal from Singwancha to allow the use if his name, the GAB board passed a resolution prohibiting the practice.

However, in a poster released for the OPBF Convention, the fight card promoted by Brico Santig who appears to be a favored matchmaker/promoter of the GAB, Guanzon and his GAB officials have allowed the use of the Singwancha name affixed to that of No. 2 ranked Ardie Boyse.

The 20 year old undefeated fighter with a record of 15-0-1 with 11 knockouts was favored to beat Toquero who has a record of 8-3-1 with 6 knockouts.

It is a well-known fact that Singwancha, in exchange for the use of his name, hands out dollars to managers and promoters and is often seen after a fight shamelessly giving the winner a couple of hundred US dollars in the ring in full view of the public.

In another example of blatant mismatches approved by the GAB, Jason Canoy who is coming off a 1st round TKO of former world rated contender Drian Francisco and who sports a record of 24-5-2 with 18 knockouts was matched against a confirmed patsy in Amiro Ricablanca who has a pathetic record of 7 wins against-47 defeats and 2 draws with just one knockout.

Guanzon who at every turn boasts of the fact that the GAB is directly under the Office of the President, Benigno Aquino III, appears to get away with a series of shenanigans as a political appointee inclusding wasting taxpayers money by attending conventions of world boxing organizations held abroad along with his two commissioners Fritz Gaston and Atty. Aquil Tamano.
