KAMEDA STOPS OGAH
By Joe Koizumi PhilBoxing.com Fri, 25 May 2007
TOKYO, JAPAN -- Unbeaten ex-WBA light-fly champ, now WBA#1/WBC#3 ranked flyweight Koki Kameda (15-0, 11 KOs), 111.5, floored OPBF#2 Indonesian 108-pound champ Irfan Ogah (16-3-4, 7 KOs), 112, twice and halted him at 2:23 of the eighth round on Wednesday in Osaka, Japan. It was the 20-year-old Japanese sensation's second triumph after renouncing the WBA belt to outgrow the 108-pound category.
Kameda, a southpaw peek-a-boo stylist, swarmed over the Indonesian, 19, from the start and battered him with solid combinations upstairs. Kameda shifted his target to the midsection to weaken him more effectively, but Ogah showed his heart and refused to go down with occasional retaliations.
The sixth saw Kameda roughly push him to the ropes and punch him out of the ropes with the referee Miyazaki counting a compulsory eight against Ogah. The Japanese lefty, in round eight, again pushed him down to the deck with a southpaw left and the third man again generously took a count against the Indonesian who claimed it was just a slip. Kameda accelerated his attack so furiously that the ref declared a halt without bothering to count.
Undercard:
Southpaw welter Akibe Ushiwakamaru (15-0, 14 KOs), 147, finished Indonesian Jack Macan (14-3-4, 5 KOs), 145.75, at 1:50 of the second session in a supporting ten.
