DE LA HOYA GETS SOME GOOD NEWS
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 08 May 2007
Shortly after losing a twelve round split decision to undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr, T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles Times reported that De La Hoya got some good news ? ?he is going to be a new father.?
Simers said De La Hoya?s beautiful wife, Puerto Rican superstar and salsa singer Millie Corretjer told the LA Times in the dressing room after the fight ?I think tonight is a good night to tell him.?
Oscar and his wife touched fists inside his dressing room before they moved into what Simers said was a backroom and closed the door. After De La Hoya went in to take a shower his wife said ?I have a feeling this may be it for him because he just told me.? The lovely wife who was seen shaking her head at special ringside when the decision was announced said her husband had told her he was quitting while on a flight to Las Vegas on a private jet but she didn?t believe him. But according to Simers, now she does.
Simers quoted Ms. De La Hoya as telling him she now believes her husband will quit. ?Yes I do? she said. ?He did his ?A? game and fought like a lion and needed to be satisfied with himself. Even though he didn?t win he won?t have regrets.?
De La Hoya and Millie were married on October 5, 2001 and have a sixteen month old son Gabriel. She said they could now wake up at six o?clock in the morning when their son calls them. ?He?s good? she says of Oscar, then adds, ?life is good.?
De La Hoya has a seven year old son Jacob and a daughter Atiana who is six, from a previous relationship .
