DE LA HOYA-MAYWEATHER TICKETS COST A FORTUNE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 03 May 2007
One front row, all access seat which was available for ?The World Awaits? mega fight between Oscar De La Hoya and undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr is selling for $107,000 or over P5 million according to respected Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer.
In a telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today, Aldeguer said that while he was waiting for Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista, AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and trainer Edito ?Ala? Villamor to arrive at the Las Vegas terminal on a flight from Puerto Rico he checked with the MGM Grand Hotel office at the airport on whether any tickets were available. Aldeguer said he was told that tickets were sold out three hours after they went on sale.
Aldeguer said his son Michael whose friends wanted to buy tickets checked on the internet and was informed that the one available front row ticket cost $107,000 although there were a few other tickets around the 35th row that were selling for over $25,000.
In the meantime De La Hoya arrived to a tumultuous greeting from adoring fans who packed the lobby of the MGM Grand while fans of Mayweather Jr also gave the bookmakers 2 to 1 favorite a rousing reception.
ABS-CBN which has exclusive rights for ?The World Awaits? will telecast the fights over Channel 2 as well as on pay-per-view over Sky, Home and Sun Cable and also in select theaters sush as Rockwell, SM and Gateway. The giant network?s vice president for sports Peter Musgni said the fights would also be telecast on a PPV basis in some provinces.
Musgni said that from a business standpoint ABS-CBN didn?t want extensive coverage in theaters because it tended to eat into the audience of Channel 2 which will telecast the fights on a slightly delayed basis.
