Big Guns Complete Round of 64 Cast PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 Feb 2015 ![]() GENERAL SANTOS CITY--World No. 7 Dennis Orcollo of the Philippines towed at least 24 other Filipinos into the knockout Round of 64 in the World 10-Ball championships in what was shaping up to be the Philippines Vs The Rest of the World battle yesterday at the SM City Mall here. World No. 1 Chang Yu Lung of Chinese Taipei, second seed Darren Appleton of Great Britain third ranked Albin Ouschan of Austria and lowly-rated Ruben Bautista of Mexico have also qualified into the Round of 64, representing the best of the world--from Europe, the Americas and Asia--vying for the most prestigious title. The erstwhile unbeaten Orcollo was slated to face Indonesian Irsa Nasution in the crossover Round of 64 hostilities Thursday evening (6 PM). Other Filipinos Jeffrey de Luna and compatriot Jundel Mazon were also paired to face each other in the other 32 knockout matches scheduled deep into Thursday night and early Friday morning. World No. 6 Ouschan bucked an opening round loss and had to go through the eye of the needle in order to qualify into the Round of 64, a typical path at how players would have to go through to become world champion if they emerge victorious up to the end. After an upset loss to Ivica Putnik of Croatia, Ouschan had to bank on a miniscule mistake of upset-conscious Elvis Calasang of the Philippines in the deciding 17th game to qualify. He also needed to beat two others in order to earn the ticket to face Filipino ace and unbeaten Lee Van Corteza next. A picture of focus and concentration amidst the noise of blaring drums and lion dance parades ushering in the Chinese New Year here, superstars Mika Immonen and Ko Pin Yi of Chinese-Taipei were still locked in a fierce battle of players coming from the losers' bracket. In the end, Ko beat Immonen in a hill-hill battle, 9-8. Chang faces Marcus Chamat of Sweden while Appleton locks horns with Muhammad Bewi of Indonesia in featured matches. Other Filipinos who have thus qualified into the next round and were playing separate opponents included Baseth Mapandi, Oliver Villafuerte, Emil Martinez, James Aranaz, Warren Kiamco, Patrick Gonzales, Jonas Magpantay, Francisco "Django" Bustamante, Raymund Faraon, Antonio Gabica, Ronnie Alcano, Anton Raga, Carlo Biado, Roberto Gomez, Elmer Haya, Jerico Bonus, Ryan Maglassang, Romeo Silvano, Johann Chua and Alex Pagulayan, among others. Unbeaten players comprising the foreign contingent included Piotr Kudlik, Radoslaw Babica and Mieszko Fortunski of Poland, John Morra and Jason Klatt of Canada, Ralf Souquet of Germany, Chang Jung Lin and Fu Che Wei of Chinese-Taipei. Others who survived an earlier loss but qualified into the Round of 64 included Alex Kazakis of Greece, Michael Turkowski and Karol Skowerski of Poland, Stuart Pettman and Karl Boyes of Great Britain, Cheng Yu Hsuan of Chinese-Taipei, David Alcaide of Spain, Marco Teutscher of the Netherlands, Liu Haitao of China and Nick Ekonomopoulus of Greece, among others.
