CEBU OFFICIALS PASS ABC EXAM

TWO pioneering officials of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) in the Philippines, as well as a Cebu-based boxing personality passed the recent Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) judges' accreditation exam held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mexican-American Michael Lopez, who is based in Cebu, relayed the development to Cebu Daily News.
Lopez said he and respected international boxing judges Salven Lagumbay, also a sports columnist in this paper, and Edward Ligas hurdled the examination held last Oct. 29 at the Caesar's Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Lagumbay, who had passed this examination three times in the past, is the first Filipino to be accredited by the prestigious Association of Boxing Commissions. Among his recent judging stints were in Macau for the Pacquiao-Algieri event where he judged the Zou Shiming and Vasyl Lomachenko fight.
Lagumbay was also one of the three judges who worked on the recent title-defense of Donnie Nietes against Mexico's Carlos Velarde.
Ligas is a first-time passer, and like Lagumbay, is a pioneer WBO official in the Philippines having joined the organization more than 10 years ago. He is also one of the officials who worked at the recent Pacquiao-Algieri event in Macau.
Lopez, who is based in Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, took the exam as a first-timer and is in the process of taking the California Boxing Commission exam.
