NBA -- Nuggets ward off Bulls, 114-109
By Katrina Barnett PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Nov 2014
CHICAGO ? The Chicago Bulls (9-6) continued their long road trip against the Denver Nuggets (7-7) on Tuesday night and ended up losing, 114-109.
The Bulls were led by Jimmy Butler's 32 points but they couldn't overcome a slow start against the Nuggets' high-octane offense. Down by 10, the Bulls started the second quarter with back-to-back turnovers by Kirk Hinrich and Aaron Brooks.
Things got worse for the Bulls when Derrick Rose sustained a tightness in his hamstring, causing him to leave the game for good after only 10 minutes of action. By then the Bulls were down 59-46.
The Nuggets, led by Ty Lawson with 20-points, continued to lead the Bulls throughout the third quarter. Thanks in part to back-to-back 3-pointers by Mike Dunleavy and Hinrich, the Bulls pulled to within three points with 7:00 left in the quarter. The comeback was, however, short lived as the Nuggets went on to end the quarter up 86-76.
Trailing by 14 with 4:35 to go, the Bulls made yet another rally, the last one a Butler bucket that got Chicago to within three points with only 31 ticks left. But the uprising was stopped for good following a Krik Hinrich turnover allowed the Nuggets to establish a six-point lead.
The Bulls have two days off before heading to Boston on Friday to play the Celtics. (KB)
