ALGIERI'S TRAINER: CHRIS WILL WIN EVERY ROUND By Calvin Cordova PhilBoxing.com Sat, 22 Nov 2014 MACAU ? Chris Algieri has the looks that can easily make women swoon. Female fans, in fact, joke what a waste it would be for his pretty-boy face to be banged up with punches inside the ring. Had this been a beauty contest, the American boxer would have been the hands-down winner. But this is boxing and Algieri finds himself the heavy underdog against the future Hall of Famer Manny ?The Pacman? Pacquiao. Not a few believe that Pacquiao is going to beat Algieri. But the latter?s trainer sees a different result, although he expressed guarded optimism of the unbeaten boxer?s chances of scoring a knockout win. ?It is possible (knockout victory). But I?m sure Chris will win. This will be a Chris Algieri show. Chris will win each round decisively,? said Lane during a roundtable interview yesterday. Algieri is known as a tactical fighter, a style that will serve him well against the speedy Pacquiao, said Lane. ?Timing beats speed. I know Chris. I know my boxer,? said Lane, who has been training Algieri for the last 14 years. Lane said father time is starting to catch up with the soon-to-be 36 years old Pacquiao. ?He has lost his edge, missing the zap that he used to have,? said Lane. Lane stressed that Algieri has made the necessary adjustment after shifting from kickboxing to boxing. ?Boxing is different. Lights are a little brighter. Fighting from a 16-foot ring to a 20-foot ring, but Chris has adjusted to it. He?s very relaxed,? said Lane. Pacquiao?s trainer Freddie Roach said there is no way that Algieri could pull off an upset, a notion that Lane dismissed. ?As a trainer, you?re supposed to say that your boxer will win. You bark a little bit but at the end of the night, Chris is going to be the winner,? declared Lane. - CALVIN CORDOVA / CEBU DAILY NEWS Photo: (center L-R) Team Algieri : Keith Trimble, Tim Lane and Stitch Duran talk with reporters in the media center at the Venetian Macao , Friday of "Fight Week" about Chris Algieri's fight with Manny Pacquiao.
