Petecio a win away from World Championship medal

Jeju City, South Korea- Feisty Nesthy Petecio, the only Filipina left in contention in the ongoing World Women's Championships in this popular tourist resort, slugged her way to her third victory in the tournament Thursday with another dominating performance, this time against Ukrainian Maryna Malovana.
The two other Filipina girls, Josie Gabuco and Irish Magno along with Team Manager Karina Picson shouted their voices hoarse in cheering as the 22 year-old Davao del Sur featherweight (57 kg.) threw effective counter combinations at her charging opponent.
All three judges scored it a shutout for Petecio with similar cards of 40-36 after 4 rounds.
She faces lanky Lu Qiong of China the very following day. Petecio needs to win the fight to land in the medal rounds. Six wins are needed to win the gold in the featherweight category.
The tournament, which drew 280 boxers from 67 countries, ends Monday.
