NBA -- Bulls stumble at home against Celtics

PhilBoxing.com

CHICAGO, IL. ? The Chicago Bulls? (5-2) Saturday night game against the Boston Celtics (3-3) landed them their second loss of the season with a final score of 101-106. Much like the Chicago Bulls only other loss of the season to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the game came down to the very last seconds as the Bulls rally fell short.

With Derrick Rose remaining inactive, the Bulls started out slow, down 2-12 more than five minutes into the game. The Bulls, however, were able to rebound thanks in part to three 3-point shots made by Mike Dunleavy, first tying the game at 18 then taking the lead 25-20 as the quarter came to an end.

The second quarter did not fair as well for the Bulls, who again started off slow, allowing the Celtics to come back and tie the game at 27 with 10:06 left in the half. The Celtics, led by Avery Bradley with 9 points, then took a 15-point lead over the Bulls heading into halftime up 56-41.

Much like the second quarter, the Bulls struggled in the third, allowing the Celtics to extend their lead to 19 points. The Bulls showed their frustration on the court as Aaron Brooks was called for a technical foul with 8.2 seconds left in the quarter. Never regaining the lead, the Bulls were down by 16 heading into the fourth quarter with a score of 67-83.

The Bulls showed renewed life in the fourth quarter, cutting the Celtics lead to 13 with approximately eight minutes left in the game before slipping behind again. Then, with less than four minutes left in the game, the Bulls came alive bringing the crowd to their feet as they rallied within 6 points in two minutes. With a score of 91-97, and 2:03 left on the clock, the United Center erupted in non-stop cheers for the first time since the game started.

At 1:38, Brooks scored his second 3-point shot in a row, bringing the Bulls within 5 points for the first time since the second quarter. Brooks then brought the Bulls to within three points of taking the lead as he sank two free throws with a minute left. On the following possession, the Celtics failed to convert one of two free throws.

Down 96-100 with 45.8 seconds left, the Bulls continued to fight, Brooks again making a shot pulling them within two points with less than 40 seconds left. Less than 30 seconds and two fouls later, however, Brooks fouled out of the game, and the Bulls came up short with a final score of 101-106.

The Bulls will next take on the Detroit Pistons at the United Center on November 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.
